Manufacturer Part Number: WPW10006355

The Shift Actuator is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is an electronic component located inside the transmission that controls the shifting between wash cycles. The shift actuator receives signals from the washer control board to change modes, initiating proper movements to advance the cycle.

Symptoms of a bad shift actuator include:

  • The washer fails to advance through cycles properly
  • Gets stuck in one phase of the wash cycle
  • Makes abnormal noises during operation
  • Does not agitate or spin as expected

Over time, environmental factors and normal wear and tear can cause the shift actuator to malfunction.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

NOTE: This new version of the part features a redesigned black plastic housing with an adapter wire harness. It replaces the older version that came in red plastic. The new part is guaranteed to fit and function like the original.

G.D. for Model Number Maytag MVWC360AW0

I'm looking at the probability of needing to replace the Shift Actuator for this model. SYMPTOM: Wash cycle starts, locks the lid, dispenses trickles of water during SENSING Mode and will not come out of sensing mode (continues with intermittent hums and water trickle for over 10-15 minutes). I then cancel the cycle and then run the DRAIN & SPIN cycle to dispense the water. This process is successful. Does this sound like a SHIFT ACTUATOR problem? If so, does your part come with all replacement directions including any RE-CALIBRATION steps necessary? Thank you

Answer

Hello G.D., You should first run the diagnostics to see if there are any fault codes. This will give the best indication of the problem with the unit. The shift actuator does not come with any instructions but the tech sheet explains how to re-calibrate the machine, which should be done anytime an electrical part is replaced on the machine. The tech sheet is in a plastic bag affixed to the inside of the front panel of the cabinet.
