By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18018519
Manufacturer Part Number: WP2198573

This upper ice bin holds ice and engages the auger/crusher assembly for dispensing from the freezer. Replacing a cracked or worn bin restores smooth cubed or crushed ice delivery and reduces jams and spills. What it does:

  • Holds and feeds ice to the auger/crusher for dispensing through the door
  • Aligns and supports the auger drive and crusher components
  • Helps maintain proper ice flow and dispensing performance
  • Common symptoms: ice won't dispense or crush, bin won't seat/latch, visible cracks or broken tabs, unusual grinding from the bin area
What's included:
  • One upper ice bin
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing; remove the ice bucket from the freezer
  • Empty remaining ice and transfer any reusable internal components from the old bin to the new bin as required by your model
  • Ensure the auger drive yoke engages and the bin seats fully before restoring power
  • Handle carefully; overtightening fasteners can crack the new bin

Answer

Elise, The WP2198573 Ice Bin is the least likely issue, the WPW10130497 Crusher Bin is more likely. It has a locking mechanism with a release button on the right side of the crusher bin " Hold the base of the storage bin with both hands and press the release button to lift the storage bin up and out." If you consistently use crushed ice, there is a possibility of ice forming between the door and the base of the ice bin, which can cause the latch assembly to "stick" and keep the bin from releasing from the door.
