This Inner Cap is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washers that is responsible for keeping water, fabric softener, and debris from getting into the agitator assembly. The cap is located at the top of the agitator to protect the agitator's internal parts. Fabric softener dispenses through the holes in the agitator above the cap.

Description- For the O ring seal only order WPW10072840.

This part fixes the following symptoms-

  • Water leakage from the agitator.
  • Fabric softener not dispensing correctly.
  • Poor washing performance.
  • Unusual noises during agitation.
  • Excessive wear on clothes.

Hello Christopher. To test the lid lock you will need to access the wiring diagram in the console of the unit and run the Lid lock test on page 9. If the lid lock test fails then you will need to check the lid lock mechanism for obstruction or binding. Repair that as necessary. Unplug the washer remove the console to access the main control board. Visually check that the J15 connector is inserted all the way into the main control. If the visual check passes then remove the connector from J15 main control board. With an ohmmeter, verify the lid lock resistance values across the following J15 connector pins: Lock switch solenoid Resistance should be between 85-155 ohms measured between pins 1 and 3 of J15 connector Lock switch If locked should be 0 ohms resistance and if unlocked should show open circuit measured between the J15 pin 3 to 4. Lid switch Lid closed should read 0 ohms and lid open should show an open circuit from connector J15 pins 3 to 2.
