For Whirlpool Inner Cap (Part Number: OEM18044538)

Ray for Model Number 110.21252110

The agitator was not moving well, seemed to be slipping. Tipped washer over to check drive belt. Found that belt had been slipping on pulley attached to agitator shaft. Found fabric softener residue on drive pulley and motor pulley. Also fabric softener on top of drive pulley. Belt had obviously been slipping. Now, I believe there are only 2 seals involved, one at the bottom of the tub, not likely as no water was leaking, or the plug with a rubber O ring under the fabric dispenser. Anyone seen this problem before? I removed and cleaned the belt and pulleys and it seemed to work well. I ordered a new belt and probably need the inner cap with O ring, any ideas?? Thanks Ray

George, the inner cap is held in place by the large black "O" ring and pressure. You may want to try and drip liquid detergent or fabric softener around the edge of the inner cap. use a pair of pliers and grip the handle of the cap and lift and turn the cap carefully to limit the damage to the inner cap.

Glenn for Model Number WTW 5200 VQ2

Our fancy front loader expensive machine (NOT Whirlpool!) died so we decided to try an older direct drive machine (Whirlpool top loader) since our experience with one like it in the past did a fine job. The model we got appears to have NO lint filter or trap. I had gone ahead and ordered a set of lint "traps" for under agitator as well as a new top cap. Found there no "lint trap plugs" only small vent like slits 1/2" inch or so. Called tech, got GREAT customer service, but tech was unsure if machine had lint filter. After much investigation, operator said she believed NO lint filters on this model. She suggested doing smaller loads and running a solution of b. soda/vinegar first, did that. Did smaller loads, appears better with less lint, but still wondering if there is a hidden lint filter on this machine. Thanks

Glenn, The WTW5200VQ2 washer does not have a "hidden" lint trap in the washer, and the spin basket/tub is not designed to have the "washer filter plug" kit either, only slots under the agitator to circulate the water up into the tub. If the washer is loaded properly, the proper amount and type of detergent is used, the lint from the clothing should "float" to the top of the tub, during the pause between the cycles and when the tub starts to spin, the lint and water will be forced to the side and the water and lint will be extracted through the openings and down the drain through the pump. At one point there was a "Drain Protector" 367031 to collect the lint, strings buttons etc. but it is no longer available from the manufacturer. You may be able to find something similar at the hardware store or home improvement center. Thanks,

Hello Christopher. To test the lid lock you will need to access the wiring diagram in the console of the unit and run the Lid lock test on page 9. If the lid lock test fails then you will need to check the lid lock mechanism for obstruction or binding. Repair that as necessary. Unplug the washer remove the console to access the main control board. Visually check that the J15 connector is inserted all the way into the main control. If the visual check passes then remove the connector from J15 main control board. With an ohmmeter, verify the lid lock resistance values across the following J15 connector pins: Lock switch solenoid Resistance should be between 85-155 ohms measured between pins 1 and 3 of J15 connector Lock switch If locked should be 0 ohms resistance and if unlocked should show open circuit measured between the J15 pin 3 to 4. Lid switch Lid closed should read 0 ohms and lid open should show an open circuit from connector J15 pins 3 to 2.

Ginger for Model Number MVWC400VW1

Even after removing lots of waxy fabric softener build-up from the top of my agitator's inner cap (Part #AP3953865), I still have a strong mildew odor from the agitator. Hoping to examine/replace the inner cap, I have found it is impossible to remove -- as if it has been improperly seated inside the agitator. It won't twist, it won't move, it won't budge! Any tips here to remove this part that seems to be quite content to stay inside the agitator???

1 Answer

Hello Ginger. You need to use pliers and grasp the top handles of the cap and jerk upward to remove it.

Hello John. The inner cap WPW10074580 pulls out of the center of the agitator to remove it. You may need to use pliers to grip the tabs on the top and pull it out of the agitator.

Gary, No the "O" ring on the inner cap would not cause water to leak from the tub. You'll need to remove the cabinet and check the tub cover and outer tub for cracks or defective seals, the pump and hoses for leakage. If you're careful, you can actually operate the washer with the cabinet removed, so you can check for th leak. We'll send you some information that should help you out.

Hello Darrell. The inner cap pulls out of the agitator. It is not threaded. Hope this helps.
