Manufacturer Part Number: W10083957V

The Dishwasher Food Chopper is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It's designed to break down food particles that are washed off dishes during the cleaning cycle. This prevents large debris from clogging the dishwasher's drain and ensures that water remains clean throughout the cycle, enhancing the machine's cleaning efficiency.

A malfunctioning or worn-out food chopper can lead to several problems, such as poor cleaning results due to food particles being redeposited on dishes, or even clogs that can strain the dishwasher's pump and filters.

Symptoms of a bad Dishwasher Food Chopper include:

  • Dishes coming out with food particles still on them
  • The dishwasher making unusual noises indicating a struggle or blockage
  • Water not draining properly, suggesting a possible clog

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Scott A. for Model Number Kenmore Elite Dishwasher

Our dishwasher started making a vibratory loud noise last week, the top rack quit coming clean, so I replaced the water inlet valve and took out the chopper assembly. It was gooped up quite a bit. It seemed to clean better but then quit again and is still loud. I took it apart and the chopper was gummed up again with food. I cleaned it again. Turning the chopper blade will not turn the motor unit but I an manually turn the motor unit and the blade turns. Does the chopper unit need replaced or is the motor going bad? Thanks

Answer

Hello Scott, The chopper has to be bad since the food is stopping up the screen. This is a common failure but the fix will correct the issue until something hard gets into the chopper area again. I do recommend to use a wet-vac to suck out the water and whatever debris is down in this chamber. The reason I have made this a habit is because many times there will be a small, clear piece of broken glass in the chamber and since you cannot see it, it will break the new part and make you have to execute the repair all over again.
