David March 10, 2024 for Model Number Maytag My chopper assembly clogs regularly, usually about once every two months. I am not sure if the chopper is even doing any spinning. Even if the chopper spins, I am skeptical that the crap that accumulates would even make it through the screen. The blade does not wipe the screen like a car wiper blade does. Seems like a bad design. Anyway, I have gotten good at disassembly and cleaning. Five minutes. Next time I clean it, is there a way to see if the impeller is spinning (the part that drives the chopper)? Hard to determine this when the repair is in progress. When the screen is clean, the dishes are clean. I will bet there are a lot of dirty dishes out there because of this.

I have used cheaper assemblies in the past, but the spring was plain steel leading to short term failure due to rust. I am hoping yours is stainless, like the original one which came in the dishwasher.

Dish Bob January 07, 2023 for Model Number MDB7759AWW3 I replaced the chopper but after 6 months the screen clogged again. I took apart the dishwasher and cleaned the clogged screen. After a month the screen must be clogged again because the water is not circulating to the top rack. Is it possible the food chopper is not being rotating and is the shaft broken that supplies the rotation. How can I tell if the about food chopper power shaft is working?

Martin March 06, 2021 for Model Number 665.13893k800 I am looking at the chopper for my Kenmore dishwasher. It is completely clogged. The chopper assembly looks ok, so I am not sure if this is issue. When chopper is completely installed on impeller should I be able to spin it i.e. should the impeller be engaged to the tines (not sure if correct term) extending from the back of the chopper assembly. To me, it looks like the impeller from motor might be worn down and missing the structure to connect with chopper. If that is case, is motor's impeller a part that can be replaced?

James July 13, 2020 Top rack is not cleaning again so I will have to assume the same issue has occurred, again, clogged screen. We have taken apart the screen and chopper several times always finding it clogged with a lint or goo type of material. Our first thought was left over cheese as we use a lot of cheese but then even after cleaning dishes prior to putting them in the dishwasher we are seeing the same thing. My next thought it is the gel covering they use on those dishwasher pods but if that is the case then more people would be complaining. Any ideas? I regularly used the High Temp option on the washer in an attempt to clean this stuff off but it doesn't appear to be working.

Christopher May 06, 2020 I replaced the food chopper assembly on my Kitchenaid dishwasher and at the start of the first wash there is a loud humming sound. I took everything apart and reassembled and all appears to be in the proper place but the sound continues.
1 Answer Hello Christopher, you did not mention why the chopper assy needed to be replaced. It attaches to the front of the wash pump motor impeller, At the start of a wash cycle the drain pump should run briefly then water fills then the wash pump starts. When the noise starts are the spray arms turning with water circulation noise, indicating the wash pump is running. If not something may be jamming the wash motor impeller and the motor is trying to run. D April 16, 2020 for Model Number kuds301xss7 My kitchenaid dishwasher was not cleaning well. so, removed everything and cleaned it out. Checked the chopper and screen , found the screen totally clogged, and the blade and rivets disassembled in front of it. Put them back together but not sure of the rivets and washers order. The outer washer next to the blade was loose fitting on the plastic shaft. should I just replace the chopper unit?It seems to be working ok now.
