Mac for Model Number SXD26VE I have an amana side by side. After several power surges it will not cool as it should. 22 deg in freezer and 40 in fridge is as low as it will go if you leave the door closed. All fans are working ok. Defrost system functioning ok. The evap coil will only frost over an inch or two from the top. It used to frost all the was down very quickly after start up. Although the compressor is running can it not be running properly due to a bad start device? Or is the compressor damaged and just not pumping as is used to?
Answer Mac, It sounds more like the sealed system is restricted, or the compressor has become inefficient. Either condition could have occurred because of the power supply issues, or age/usage. The start device may be opening early due to the restriction, but otherwise it is attempting to cool and run. You'll need guages and a meter to test for proper operation, and you probably aren't equipped with the tools,etc. to diagnose the issue. Thanks and Good Luck Read More...
