Rich for Model Number PBF2255HES

Frig not cooling in either compartment. Compressor, evaporator fan and both inside fans running. No signs of freon leakage anywhere. Ohmed out the defrost thermostat and thermister. Both OK. Solid state controls. Removed both control boards and did a visual inspection for damaged components on the boards. OK. Compressor is warm, not hot to the touch, making a soft humming sound while running. I suspect the compressor but have been told when they stop functioning there is an accompanying noise factor. I have experienced this problem on automobiles where the compressor stopped moving freon with no noises from compressor. Any ideas?

Rich, While it is definitely possible that the compressor is not circulating the refrigerant it could also be a low side evaporator leak as there would be no sign of refrigerant leakage. You would want to have a authorized refrigeration tech to diagnose and repair the unit.

Rem 1061, The compressor Full load amps should be 1.2(+/- 15%) so you're a tad on the high side of the range. But for the age of the machine, we wouldn't be too surprised. Are you sure the condenser coil is clean of any lint or debris, and the fan is running at high speed ? Since the capacitor "went bad" have you checked the compressor motor winding resistances, and or the overload/relay to see if they are keeping the compressor energized, or of it's dropping out early ? Otherwise, it sounds like you may have a loss of refrigerant or a restriction in the sealed system .
