If the model and serial numbers could be verified and provided in a new inquiry, this may allow for more accurate information to be presented. However, based on the information provided, it sounds like there may be a start/run relay failure. If your compressor has a start/run relay and an overload protector on it, the overload protector would need to be tested for voltage. If there is a constant 120VAC being supplied, either the relay has failed (this would be the most likely case) or the compressor motor and windings have failed (this would be the less likely failure).
