M.B.M. for Model Number Maytag MDB9100AWQ

I have had this MDB9100AWQ since 2001. There was a recall for the potential leakage around the control panel. The service was done in 2006 or 07. I think they replaced the control panel at that time since there was some corrosion. A couple of days ago I pulled the lower wash arm to clean out the water ports. When I tried to start the machine after the cleaning, the Control Panel was totally dead. I have since smelled burnt electronics around the door latch port on the door side directly above the control panel. I am assuming the control panel is toast. My question is: Was the cleaning of the washer arm and the likely death of the control panel a colossal coincidence? I am fairly handy and can replace the control panel but considering the age of the machine, I am concerned about spending a $200 and then have some other problem blow the new panel. Thanks for your help.

Answer

Hello M.B., Look behind the kick panel for the tech sheet. Check the electrical connection to the unit behind the kick panel in the little electrical connection box for melted wire nuts while you're in there. If that's ok, check the door switches. While in there, make sure the harness isn't sticking to the door liner material. If this has happened, the door liner and complete harness will require replacement. If not, the control board WP99002825 has probably failed. You should make sure voltage and neutral is getting to the board. Remember, if neutral doesn't get there, the return half of the circuit is open and it cannot operate. Let us know if we can assist you further.
