Common causes of a bad damper control can include wear and tear over time, electrical failures, or mechanical obstructions. A malfunctioning damper control can lead to temperature imbalances, affecting the preservation of food.

Symptoms of a bad damper control include:

  • Inconsistent temperatures between the freezer and refrigerator
  • Freezer overly cold while the refrigerator is too warm, or vice versa
  • Frost buildup in the refrigerator compartment
  • Unusual noises coming from the damper area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Jenn-Air Refrigerator Owner for Model Number JFC2089HEP

Water pump not working but ice maker works. Replaced filter, cleaned behind refrigerator, held water pump button for 1+ minutes but still no water. Display light for water/filter does not work but all other display lights work. Turned temperature up to 45 degrees for 1/2 hour and water worked short time but stopped after not using it for a few hours. Also, occassionally food on top shelf of fridge and vegetable bin or lower tray freezes but not all the time.

Answer

Jenn Air refrigerator owner. You will want to check the damper to make sure that it is opening and closing. From the description it sounds as though the water tank may be freezing. Makes sure also that there is nothing sitting directly in front of the damper that would cause the cold air to be forced downward to the water tank. Also check the thermistor to ensure that it is within range per specs on the tech sheet which would be located on the base of the unit under the kickplate in a plastic envelope.
