Manufacturer Part Number: WP67003903

The Damper Control is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It regulates the airflow between the freezer and refrigerator compartments, maintaining the appropriate temperatures in each section. This component ensures that cold air is distributed properly, contributing to the overall efficiency and performance of the refrigerator.

Common causes of a bad damper control can include wear and tear over time, electrical failures, or mechanical obstructions. A malfunctioning damper control can lead to temperature imbalances, affecting the preservation of food.

Symptoms of a bad damper control include:

  • Inconsistent temperatures between the freezer and refrigerator
  • Freezer overly cold while the refrigerator is too warm, or vice versa
  • Frost buildup in the refrigerator compartment
  • Unusual noises coming from the damper area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Barry for Model Number KBFA25ERSS01

Since day 1 there's been this "grinding" noise periodically (not constant, for a short period, like it's going through some cycle). Unit has long had problems with refrigerator easily getting too hot and then fighting for hours to get back. Last few years it's even worse especially on humid days. With the French doors I know opening them both up for even a little bit very quickly lets lots of warm air in, but the recovery is just so poor. The damper cover will sometimes get a bit frosted over as it's fighting to cool down (esp. towards the right side of it). I can feel air coming out the vent at the very bottom (so I think the motor fan must be working). I can feel air coming out the damper cover (so I think the evaporator fan is OK)... seems to me both should blow harder but maybe they're just working normally (do they ever fail where they work but don't turn as fast as they should?). No excessive noise from the fans either. So I'm thinking maybe it's been the damper control all along, sometimes (maybe always) just not opening all the way when it should. Freezer has never had a problem and if I switch to "max cool" it easily goes below 0 degrees, but the refrigerator still fights for a long time to get cool. I try to make sure nothings blocking the damper cover and nothing is over the vents on the back floor or blocking air flow along the back wall. So does the damper sound like a good bet? Any more definitive testing I can easily do? Thanks!

Answer

Hello Barry. It has been known for fans to be going bad and running slow. Also, some dampers have failed and will not fully open. So, with this, it can be either part causing the issue. As for air flow, it shouldn't be real strong. You honestly can barely feel it in the top, but you know it is there. I would start with checking the damper to see if it is fully opening.
