Barry, Yes, you should be able to unlatch the door, wait a few seconds and open the door without any water running out, unless the machine is overfilling. If the dishwasher is filling properly, the water level should be in contact with the lower half of the heater element to coverring the element slightly. You also want to check and make sure that the dishwasher is level in both directions(front to back and side to side). Remove the lower spray arm and check for debris in the jet openings on both sides and ends of the spray arm amd a possible split seam on the sides. If in doubt, and the checks are proper, replace the lower spray arm. Thanks and Good Luck
