Dean C for Model Number Maytag top loading washing machine, model no. MVWC6ESWW1 The Maytag washing machine is less than two years old. The problem is that on the normal, casual, and comforter/bedding cycles, the agitator starts as the water is filling the tub vs. the tub filling first and then the agitator. Some on line postings would suggest the temperature switch is bad and needs replacing, and another suggests it may be the timer. So I decided to test the various switches with an Ohm meter and possibly narrow the scope. In doing so, I was able to get the Ohm meter to move on all the switches except the timer. By moving, I mean the meter would only react if the red and black leads touched certain contact points on the switches. For instance, on the temperature switch, only two prongs on the both the long and short plug would work. For the fabric softener and extra rinse switches, only the prongs marked as 5 and 3 would move the Ohm meter. For the soil lever switch, only the prongs marked 5 and 2 would work. For the timer...no activity. I'm not sure if I'm testing the switches correctly, and if so, does this definitely mean the problem is the timer? How do you test the timer...which prongs? Your help is much appreciated.
