Grant M. for Model Number KUDIO1ILBS5 This dishwasher stopped working. I had a service person come and he replaced the fuse with the new wiring harness the same as the replacement part you sell. I asked him at the time if the fuse would fix the problem or if there is an underling problem. He said the new replacement fuse with the wiring harness was better than the old one and the dishwasher should be fine now. It worked for several months then stopped again. I did not want to call them back because it was too expensive. I tested the fuse myself and it was blown again. At your advice I ordered 3 fuses and the heating element AP3841139. I installed the first fuse. I left the wiring harness on that the repair person put on, it looked identical to the one supplied with the fuse. The unit turned on and I was able to empty the water and old soap. I let it run for a full cycle to clean it out. Before the full cycle ended the machine stopped, I think at the water heating cycle. The tub was full of hot water and all the lights were out. I tested the fuse and it was blown. I installed the second the fuse I bought and again left the wiring harness in place. I only ran the machine on cancel to empty the water. I then installed part # AP3841139 the heating element and the new circuit board part that came with it. I ran the machine and again the fuse blew again I think at the water heating cycle. Hot water was in the tub. I then installed the third fuse I bought and ran the dishwasher on cancel to get the water out of the tub. I have now installed my last fuse. I turned the circuit breaker off and do not know what to do. Between the original service guy, $250, and the parts I purchased from you, $200, I have about $450 into repairs and the dishwasher is not working. Do you have any suggestions? Grant
Answer Hello Grant, The fuse that keeps blowing is blown by excessive current flow. I would first remove the kickpanel and check the wire nuts where the power is connected to the unit. If they aren't discolored or burned, you next should check the resistance of the motor windings. If one of the three motor windings are going bad, when the additional current pull from the heater coming on goes through the fuse, it's enough to blow it. There is a winding in the drain pump motor that should read 16 ohms. There are two windings in the circulation pump motor. The run winding should read 3.7 ohms and the aux. winding, (start winding), should read 6.25 ohms. The heating element should read 16.3 ohms. In the particular failure you are describing, the manufacturer recommends replacement of any component on the unit that appears to have been hot, (discoloration). There was one unit I repaired that the customer actually had to replace the wiring from the breaker to the unit as the electrician had installed wiring that was rated too small for the application. We learned this from referring to the installation manual which came with the unit. There was another that had to replace the breaker. We found it by running the unit and I went back to turn the breaker off and the breaker was really hot. Anyplace in the circuit that can build resistance will shoot the fuse.
