Part Number: OEM18035460
Manufacturer Part Number: WP8182634

The Door Switch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This assembly detects whether the washer door is open or closed, allowing the machine to start or stop the washing cycle accordingly.

Causes of a bad door switch assembly can include wear and tear from frequent use, damage from forceful closing of the door, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning switch can prevent the washer from recognizing a closed door, thus hindering the start of the wash cycle or causing it to stop unexpectedly.

Symptoms of a bad Door Switch Assembly include:

  • Washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes indicating door issues
  • Washer not spinning or agitating
  • Door lock mechanism not engaging or disengaging properly

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Amanda for Model Number Maytag

I have a Maytag front load washer. The problem I have is it will go through a complete cycle but the door will not unlock. I have replaced the lock switch part number WP8182634 about 2 months ago, it was working fine. Now it is doing it again. Could it be something else that is causing this problem? I unplug the washer and plug it back in, it doesn't unlock it. That would work a couple of times before. I put it on the spin and rinse quick cycle as soon as I start the washer it will unlock it. I hit pause and stop the cycle that is what I have been doing to be it to open. Could I get help please? Thank you!

Answer

Amanda, Yes, there are a couple of things to check, first. Make sure the loading door is aligned to the opening in the front panel, check the door latch mounting screws to make sure they are tight and the latch is properly mounted and secured to the front panel. Check the door latch strike, on the door, make sure it is installed and tightened properly. Lastly, check the wiring at the door latch assembly and the control board for loose connections, and check the wiring for any sharp crimps, twists, kinks, etc.
