The Door Switch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This assembly detects whether the washer door is open or closed, allowing the machine to start or stop the washing cycle accordingly.

Causes of a bad door switch assembly can include wear and tear from frequent use, damage from forceful closing of the door, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning switch can prevent the washer from recognizing a closed door, thus hindering the start of the wash cycle or causing it to stop unexpectedly.

Symptoms of a bad Door Switch Assembly include:

  • Washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes indicating door issues
  • Washer not spinning or agitating
  • Door lock mechanism not engaging or disengaging properly

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Lee, Remove the lower access panel on the front. Once it is removed, reach up to where the lock is and there will be a round piece at the bottom of it that you will pull down on and this will release the door lock.

Wp_Fan1 for Model Number GHW9300PW0

Getting a "DL/F" error. Door latch will not engage and therefore, washer will not start cycle. Can hear faint clicking noise, like it is sending signal and wants to initiate cycle. It clicks ~5-6 times then beeps and displays the "DL/F" error code. I replaced the Door latch assembly (QED thanks to your helpfull video). However, still get same results, does not start, and then "DL/F" code. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Do I need to check the Wire Harnesses? and/or some control electronics? Thx

WP_fan1, if there is not a pinched/broken wire, loose connection, and the door is able to properly close, the failure would be in the main control WP8182308. Unfortunately, this part has been discontinued and is no longer available.

Hello Doc, the fault code F11 refers to the main control board not being able to power or communicate with the motor control board when this occurs the main control will not allow the door latch to unlock for several minutes for safety, if you try to force the door to unlock in that time through the control panel you can get a false lock fault code ,the motor control board is part W10756692.

Hello Doc, the fault code refers to a failed Motor Control Unit, W10756692, when this part has failed and the washer attempts top to start, the main control board will go into a safety lockout and not allow the door to unlock for several minutes. If there was a latch problem it would have a different fault code.

Elizabeth, the F-11 error code is a communication error between the main console and the control board. Sometimes you can unplug each connection at the board and plug them back in and it will fix the problem, if not, you will need to replace the main control, part number is WP8182689

Amanda for Model Number Maytag

I have a Maytag front load washer. The problem I have is it will go through a complete cycle but the door will not unlock. I have replaced the lock switch part number WP8182634 about 2 months ago, it was working fine. Now it is doing it again. Could it be something else that is causing this problem? I unplug the washer and plug it back in, it doesn't unlock it. That would work a couple of times before. I put it on the spin and rinse quick cycle as soon as I start the washer it will unlock it. I hit pause and stop the cycle that is what I have been doing to be it to open. Could I get help please? Thank you!

1 Answer

Amanda, Yes, there are a couple of things to check, first. Make sure the loading door is aligned to the opening in the front panel, check the door latch mounting screws to make sure they are tight and the latch is properly mounted and secured to the front panel. Check the door latch strike, on the door, make sure it is installed and tightened properly. Lastly, check the wiring at the door latch assembly and the control board for loose connections, and check the wiring for any sharp crimps, twists, kinks, etc.
