Patrick I have a GE gas range. The burner ignitor sparks and there is gas coming out, but the burner does not ignite. I have checked the orifice on the burner that leads to the ignitor and they are not blocked. All burner ignitors spark at the same time, is that normal? Also the oven burner does not ignite also. The oven ignitor assembly seemed to glow but nothing else happens.
Answer Patrick, Yes, it is normal for all four top burner igniters to spark, when any burner knob is turned to the on or lite position. If one burner will not ignite you need to check the burner area for debris, check that the spark is as bright as the other burner and strike in the same area of the burner, it's nor erratic or bouncing to different areas. The oven igniter is a separate system, the power to the igniter is supplied from the control, when power is applied to the "hot surface" igniter / glow bar, it starts to glow, then when the amperage draw reaches 3.2 to 3.6 amps (2.5 to3.0 for round igniters) the safety valve opens and the burner ignites. You most likely have a weak oven burner igniter and it will need replacement.
