By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18027975
Manufacturer Part Number: WP4387938

This compressor overload is a thermal protector that opens the circuit if the compressor overheats or draws excessive current. Replacing a failed overload restores reliable starts and helps prevent compressor damage when your refrigerator won't cool.

  • Protects the compressor by interrupting power during overheat/overcurrent conditions
  • Common symptoms: refrigerator not cooling, compressor won't start, repeated clicking or brief hum then shutoff
  • Mounts on the compressor terminal and works alongside the start relay on applicable models
  • Built for proper fit and dependable operation in the start circuit
What's included: One overload protector
  • Unplug the refrigerator and remove the rear access panel to reach the compressor
  • Note wire positions; pull the old overload straight off the compressor pin
  • Push the new overload fully onto the correct terminal and reconnect wiring/terminal cover
  • Restore power and verify the compressor starts without repeated clicking

Answer

Hello Tim. You will hook the wires up the same way they were on your old overload. If the red wire was on L and the white wire was on N, then that is where they will go on your new overload. You can look at the wiring diagram for the refrigerator to determine where the line and neutral wires go. It does sound like the white should be Neutral and the Red would be the Line according to the colors. Hope this helps.
