Penny December 11, 2017 for Model Number ET8MHKXMT03 Is the relay overload switch difficult to replace for a do-it-your-selfer?
1 Answer Hello Penny, This is not a hard job at all. Just be sure to place each wire on the new part as soon as it is removed from the old part so the wires are placed in the correct positions. Other than that, the hardest part will be removing the cover. It snaps on pretty tight and you will have to use a screwdriver to pry it off. Read More...
Greg January 16, 2016 The new overload/relay kit 4387938 is in individual parts. However the new relay in the kit only has one true spade connector. The old relay had 2. How is one supposed to hook this part up? The separate capacitor has a blue and white coming off of it. The blue wire will hook to the spade connector but how do you hook up the white wire?. The new relay has 4 small spades numbered spades but neither the blue or white wire will hook to any of them
1 Answer Hello Greg, I'm sorry but we need you to locate the units' I.D. tag and please provide the model number so we can look up the correct part for your unit and the wiring diagram so we can accurately provide installation instructions for your part. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. Read More...
Min October 14, 2015 for Model Number Fisher Scientific Cat:13-986-106A Model : ET18NK This is a Lab used refrigerator. Both freezer and frig are warm, I can hear compressor pretty often start and stop in 5-10 sec with clicking sound. I did study know the problem is "capacitor". But I looked around compressor , didn't find it. So, I just took the only part by the compressor, it is overload. I ordered the exactly overload from Pros, changed it. Now I still have Warm problem, compressor still start 5-10 sec then stop. I still believe it is capacitor problem, but I can't find where capacitor is. Please advise! Thanks!
1 Answer Hello Min. We do not offer parts for this brand. You can try a 3 in 1 TJ90RCO410 on the unit, but if the compressor still does not run, then the compressor is bad. Read More...
Marc May 20, 2015 for Model Number ER2CHMXPL04 Would a bad overload or start relay cause the condenser to run hot? The unit is clean, but the condenser run hotter than I think it should. Freezer is freezing ok, but I have to keep the refrigerator control at max (5) to keep refrigerator between 38-45 degrees.
1 Answer Hello Marc. No, if the condenser is to hot, you will need to check the condenser fan motor WP2188874 in the unit. The relay and overload are only for the compressor. Read More...
Dennis A November 23, 2014 for Model Number ET8MHKXMQ04 This Whirlpool Refrig is 7 years old.I am somewhat familar with the workings of a refrigerator. Every 6 months I clean the condenser and compressor area. The unit is clean now. The refrig is coolong fine. Around 38 degrees in refrig and aout 10 degrees in the freezer. The frig is not overloaded with food items. Lately when the compressor and fans activate, all will run for around 15 to 20 minutes the shut off..Around 2 minutes later the compressor and fans will acivate again for about 1 minute the shut off Again after about a minute the compressor and fans will activate for about a minute the shut off. This will happen for about 6 to 7 times. Then the unit will be off for a while( about 20 to 30 minutes. Then the compressor and fans will activate and run for about 15 to 20 minutes and the short cycles will start again. On occasion I have heard a thump/clunk from the compressor. The compressor doesn't feel that hot. I can hold my hand on it. The compressor cooling fan is working fine. Any ideas on what can be the problem? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dennis
1 Answer Dennis, You will want to check for loose wiring, if the wiring checks ok then this would sound like a faulty thermostat. Read More...
Dan C January 29, 2014 for Model Number ET18PKXGW01 Hello, Does the part labeled "overload" also contain the starter relay? The compressor on my model isn't even trying to start and I believe it might be a bad relay but I can't seem to find any parts on here with that description. Thanks, Dan
Dave June 05, 2013 for Model Number RT14BKXSQ00 How do I remove the Overload for the compressor. I can see it on the compressor but when you try to move it, it does nothing. Want to see if something inside might be broken but cant get it off to rattle it and see if it is broken. Would like to order one but not sure if it is bad or not.
1 Answer Hello Dave, Sometimes there will be a wire retainer and if it has been serviced before, there may be a wire tie holding it on the compressor. Remove which ever it has and with the unit unplugged, slip a flat bladed screwdriver between the start device and the compressor. You will be able to carefully slip it off. Read More...
Tom January 03, 2013 for Model Number whirlpool et8chmxkb06 My refrigerator will stop working every couple of days. If I unplug it and wait a few minutes and plug it back in it will start back up. Does this sound like a problem with the overload?
1 Answer Hello Tom. See if the compressor stops running. If so, it sounds like the thermostat WP2200859 is bad and will need to be replaced in the unit. Read More...
Ray September 07, 2012 for Model Number 18DKXKQ00 How can I check the overload part on my refrigerator? So that I can determine if it's good or bad before ordering a replacement.
1 Answer Hi Ray. Use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. Use the R x 1 scale and put the 2 meter leads together momentarily to verify the meters ohm scale is working. You normally read .01 or .02 ohms resistance in the leads itself - normal. This tells you the meters 9v battery is good. If you are hearing a heavy "Click" every few seconds then either the overload is bad or the compressor windings are bad. After you remove the overload and let it cool completely, it should read approx. 4-6 ohms cold. If it rattles as well then the ptc disk inside is bad. Overload part # WP4387938. Thank you. Craig K. December 10, 2011 for Model Number 106.60832101 Follow up question: Still having difficulty seeing how these parts will replace the original overload and capacitor. I do not see how the original capacitor can mount on these parts. My compressor has three prongs in a triangular pattern and I think I see how my replacement parts (AP3136048) mount on those and the harness connector fits smaller spades so I am assuming I need to replace those. But what about the capacitor? Is there a different capacitor that I need? Any help would be appreciated.
1 Answer Hi Craig. The overload has a single female round pin that slides onto the "top" of the triangle set of pins. Then this will leave the left over 2- remaining compressor pins side by side , correct? This is where the relay female pins slide onto the compressor. Together these 2 parts will cover all 3-triangular pins. Then Yes, use the smaller spade jumper wire to extend the wire to the relay. The capacitor is part # WPW10662129. Some models have them while others do not(lesser Quality). It is a run capacitor and in my opinion will keep the compressor running smoother and longer. SO you simply need to use the 2 capacitor wires and connect them to the relay by choosing the terminals #1 and what is across from it and not below it. Thank You. Read More...
