Manufacturer Part Number: WP35-6465

The Drain Pump Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This component is responsible for efficiently removing water from the washer's tub during the drain cycle. It plays a crucial role in ensuring that the washing machine operates smoothly by pumping out dirty water, thereby preparing the machine for the rinse and spin cycles.

Over time, drain pumps can become clogged or fail due to debris build-up, wear and tear from regular use, or electrical malfunctions. When the drain pump is compromised, it can lead to water drainage issues, affecting the overall performance of the washing machine.

Symptoms of a bad drain pump assembly include:

  • Water not draining from the washer
  • Unusual noises such as grinding or humming during the drain cycle
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle or displaying error codes related to drainage
  • Visible leaks from the pump area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Don for Model Number MAV5000AWW

I'm having periodic problem with the washing machine shutting off with the tub still with water or the clothes still soaking wet. After reading your previous threads, few questions dawned on me. (1) You mentioned that this is a high volume pump. Does the pump run all the time? (2) Is there a drain valve that prevents the water from draining during wash as well as rinse cycles? (3) Should I hear a steady rush of water out the drain hose from the start to the end of the drain cycle?

Answer

Hello Don. First check the thrust bearing 12002213 and make sure it is working properly and is not worn or broken. The pump runs when the motor is in the spin mode. It does run through the entire spin cycle. If the tub is not spinning properly, the water will not drain all the way out. See if the thrust bearing is your problem. Hope this helps.
