The Drain Pump Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This component is responsible for efficiently removing water from the washer's tub during the drain cycle. It plays a crucial role in ensuring that the washing machine operates smoothly by pumping out dirty water, thereby preparing the machine for the rinse and spin cycles.

Over time, drain pumps can become clogged or fail due to debris build-up, wear and tear from regular use, or electrical malfunctions. When the drain pump is compromised, it can lead to water drainage issues, affecting the overall performance of the washing machine.

Symptoms of a bad drain pump assembly include:

  • Water not draining from the washer
  • Unusual noises such as grinding or humming during the drain cycle
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle or displaying error codes related to drainage
  • Visible leaks from the pump area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Tom P for Model Number MAV7700AWW serial# 1900146YY

Our Maytag Washer Model MAV7700AWW serial # 19200146YY runs through the colors cycles but will the water doesn't drain out. If I move the timer to the Whites cycle to between rinse and spin the water will pump out. Is this a timer issue that needs to be replaced? If the timer needs to be replaced how do you remove the timer? I've seen videos but not for the model we have. If it's another part that needs to be replaced what part and is there a video for that part. I will wait for your reply before I order parts. Thanks in advance. Tom P.

Tom, This issue does sound like it would be a timer issue if the unit is also not spinning when the unit should drain and spin. It would be more likely that there was a clog or something of that nature because this unit has a belt driven and the timer would have nothing to do with the drain unless it is not spinning also.

Tina, the pump that is necessary depends on the series that your unit falls in. The 16 and 19 series drain pump is part number WP35-6780 and the 10 series is part number WP35-6465. The series can be found by using the first two digits of the serial number.

Hello Pete, This is caused by the brake rotor WP35-6714 and stator WP35-6918. Replacing them will correct the noise but be aware that the manufacturer recommends to lightly grease them with white lithium grease WP20000030 to prevent the sound from recurring. Sometimes the old brake can be cleaned with rubbing alcohol, the stator sanded with a crosshatch pattern, and greased to correct the noise. The noise is, unfortunately, a characteristic of the design so the grease is strongly recommended. The grease should be applied in a thin layer so no "globs" are slung from the assembly into the floor when the unit is operated.

Hello Shelby. You will need to check and see if anything is inside the pump. If not, and the pulley is hard to turn, you will need to replace the pump again on the unit. It has failed.
