About the pump bearing: I asked about noise in a post from 1/2/12 and the answer said to check the pump for binding and if that wasn't the case to replace the thrust bearing. Since the pump turned easily enough by hand, I replaced the thrust bearing. The noise continued and agitation was slow to non-existent before stopping. Drain and spin worked most of the time with noise. When I look at the pump pulley I see the crimped metal sleeve sticking out like a petticoat about 1/4" above the top of the pulley hub. The pulley has some slight wiggle to it. Is that the problem? Can the hub be pressed back onto the crimped sleeve? Do I have a way of knowing that it's not a transmission problem?

Danny, to test the transmission, remove the belt, and turn the transmission drive pulley in the clockwise direction, that should cause the agitator to move back and forth. Turn the pulley the opposite direction, the pulley will get harder to turn, and the tub will start to spin(slowly) you should be able to hear or feel if threes an issue in the gearcase(transmission). But it sounds like you've got a drain pump issue, based on your post description. The impeller shaft is starting to seize up on the shaft, and causing a "drag" on the belt and motor.
