Answer Hello Pat, The ignitor has to pull from 3.2 to 3.6 amps of current before the gas valve will open. In a nutshell, if the current is not high enough, the ignitor can glow red or orange without pulling enough current. The ignitor has to glow bright yellow to white hot before the gas valve will open. If you have a way to test the current, this will tell you for sure. If it is pulling sufficient current, the gas valve and/or the burner is in question. Read More...
