The Flame Sensor is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool gas dryers. This component plays a critical safety role by monitoring the presence of the gas burner flame during the drying cycle.

Causes of needing to replace the flame sensor can include normal wear and tear over extended use, exposure to high temperatures or corrosion, or physical damage to the sensor itself.

Symptoms that may indicate a faulty flame sensor include:

  • The dryer not heating or producing heat properly
  • Error codes related to the gas system or ignition failure
  • The dryer shutting off unexpectedly during cycles

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore gas dryer models.

Lew for Model Number GGW9200LL1

Dryer has low heat regardless of the temperature I select. Using the hints and suggested causes of my problem from the website and other postings on your site, I have replaced the: valve coils, the thermistor and the high temp thermostat. The thermal fuse is good (has continuity) and the ignitor glows brightly with every call for heat cycle. My cycle: the ignitor glows, the gas valve opens but only burns for 5 seconds, I hear a click and the flame shuts off for a few minutes then the burn cycle starts again - but never more than 5 seconds at a time, The dryer barely gets lukewarm and it takes forever to dry a load. Appliance Parts Pros was kind enough to send me a "service manual" ( Whirlpool's service manual leave a lot to be desired - no fault of Appliance Parts Pros) and I ran the suggested diagnostics, resulting in an error code 3 - indicating a defective Machine Control Board. Ordered the $$$ board and it arrived yesterday with a broken seal on the static bag causing me some concern that this was a re-pack but I installed the board anyway and this time no error code 3. Unfortunately my low heat problem continues (regardless of my temp selection on the control panel) the burn cycles on (again) for no longer than 5 seconds at a time then minutes later cycles on again for 5 seconds. The dryer never gets beyond a lukewarm temp. HELP !! One more thing when running diagnostics, the moisture sensor tests said I should get an "03" in the display if all is good, I get a "09"..but no explanation in the "service manual" as to what an "09" is or what I should do about it. I checked the harness and no shorts or opens were detected. I really don't want to have the expense of a service call on top of what I've already replaced, your guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Answer

Lew, You will want to clean the sensor bars with rubbing alcohol and see if this will correct the issue. Also check the venting on the unit from the blower wheel to the outside of the home as this could be causing the issue.
