Hello Brenda, It takes some time for the water that fills the icemaker to come down to 20°F. The water temperature coming into the icemaker and how long the door was opened also contributes to the time required. While it will normally take less than 24 hours for the icemaker to cycle, the more often the unit door is opened, the longer it will take to come down to temperature and cycle.
