Answer

Mary, there are several reasons why an ice maker can produce smaller than normal cubes. The most common issue that can occur is if the water filter is clogged up from use over time, it can reduce the amount of water that is able to pass through to the ice maker and the water dispenser. The second most common issue that can occur is that the water valve does not open fully due to wear and tear over time. The third possibility is that the ice maker may be short cycling when calling for water, but this occurrence is not common. The water filter can be tested by using the bypass plug [R0000009] that came with the refrigerator in place of the filter. If water flow improves, then it is the filter that is causing the issue. If the water flow does not improve, then the most likely part would be one of the valves which the valve can be tested by using the water dispenser as a reference. If the water dispenser produces the same amount of water volume as normal, then the issue would be with the secondary valve [WP12544101]. If the water volume does not flow as normal, then the issue would more than likely be the main valve [WP12544001].
