Bob for Model Number Maytag MSD2454GRW My ice maker has been working off and on for a several months. Sometimes producing plenty of ice and other times none for a few days. Then it starts making ice again. Sometimes ice gets stuck when it is ejected from the maker. Most recently my ice maker is not filling up fully with water. It is making tiny ice cubes that cannot be ejected. Do I need a new ice maker or a new water valve or anything else? Thank you for the advice.
Answer Hello Bob, This sounds like the water inlet valve. There are timed electrical contacts in the ice maker control module, so there is a possibility that you are experiencing a short cycle. Most of the time in a situation like this, the water inlet valve solves the issue. This unit has a primary and a secondary valve. Either one can cause the issue. I would try the secondary 61005626 first and if the problem isn't corrected, replace the primary valve 12001892. The reason for this is simply that you can test the coils on the valves but there is no test to see if the internal parts are mechanically working properly. Read More...
