Jeffrey H I have a 15 year old Zub Zero Frig. The ice maker which looks identical to the Whirlpool unit, started making hollow ice ? than stopped altogether. I removed the Ice Maker and unplugged the wiring connector, inside the plastic connector I noticed a burn mark at the white wire terminal. I cannot remove the wiring harness, as its part of the frig. wiring. Should I just replace the maker and hope it works. After i put the maker back in, it made ice a few times (hollow ice again) than stopped. I also checked the water line, which was ok.
Answer Hello Jeffery, Based on the information provided you may want to check your fill tube to make sure that it is not freezing up. If the fill tube is freezing this would cause low water to icemaker. Also check to see if you have a filter somewhere in the unit or connected to incoming water line that may be giving you low water pressure to icemaker. Low water pressure is the cause for hollow ice.
