Alan, With the unit doing this from cold state would say that this will most likely be a faulty control board. It would be recommended to access the tech sheet and see if there are any error codes showing.

Alan, The sensor wouldn't affect the start or run of the dryer, you may want to clean the sensor assembly using a clean rag and rubbing alcohol, to remove any residual softener deposits. Check and make sure you don't have the wrinkle release or wrinkle prevent option/cycle selected. If the problem persists, you'll need to check for a loose wire connection at the machine control board, check that the door is closing and latching properly and the door switch circuit is OK.
