Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Sensor (Part Number: OEM18040527)

Joseph, Sounds like a stuck heater relay on the control board. Access your main control board and find a relay that has two wires going in it. One is black the other is red. Remove one wire and see if the relay reads closed with the unit off. This will be a continuity test. If it reads closed or continuity then replace the control.

Hello Gary, PF indicates a power failure. This can mean that the power actually has gone off and come back on or there could be a loose connection that caused a power interruption to the board which would also cause this display.

Bill, You will want to check the dryer venting to see if it is clogged up. If this checks ok then check the thermostats to make sure that they are good and check the heating element to make sure that it is not burnt out.

Alan, With the unit doing this from cold state would say that this will most likely be a faulty control board. It would be recommended to access the tech sheet and see if there are any error codes showing.

Alan, The sensor wouldn't affect the start or run of the dryer, you may want to clean the sensor assembly using a clean rag and rubbing alcohol, to remove any residual softener deposits. Check and make sure you don't have the wrinkle release or wrinkle prevent option/cycle selected. If the problem persists, you'll need to check for a loose wire connection at the machine control board, check that the door is closing and latching properly and the door switch circuit is OK.

Kathy, Based on your post information and description, you'll want to check the thermal fuse WP3392519 / WP3392519 located on the back of the blower housing. If the dryer overheats the fuse "opens" and interrupts power to the motor. The click noise you hear is most likely the motor relay on the control board "closing" and sending power to the motor. With no error codes, and everything programming properly, the fuse would be the first thing to check. You'll need to move the dryer out and remove the rear cover panel to access and test the the part. You'll also want to check for a clogged vent pipe and vent hood while you're servicing the dryer.

Andy, If the panel just lights up on its own then this sounds like it would be a keypad that is stuck on the control panel which would need W10269611. If the unit will turn on when you are trying to do a load but just shuts right back down or if the control panel checks ok then the issue will be the main control board WPW10214008.
