The Temperature Sensor is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens and ranges. It monitors the internal temperature of the oven cavity and communicates with the oven control board to maintain accurate cooking temperatures. This ensures that your oven heats to the correct temperature for baking, roasting, and broiling.

Causes of a bad temperature sensor can include normal wear and tear, exposure to high temperatures over extended periods, or damage from accidental impacts or electrical surges.

Symptoms of a bad temperature sensor include:

  • Incorrect oven temperatures
  • Overcooking or undercooking of food
  • Oven not heating up
  • Error codes displayed on the oven control panel

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Rick for Model Number mgs8880ds0

I purchased a Maytag Gas Range mgs8880ds0 from Lowes. The burners and broiler work properly and I have never had any issues. The issue is with the oven burner. I select the baking temperature and select bake, convect bake, etc. I hear the gas come on, the ignighter click once and also hear it light. The oven comes to temp quickly with no issues. The issue comes once it is up to temperature. For the first re-heat cycle (to maintain the oven temp) I can hear the gas come on, ignighter click and it lights up, however after one or two re-heat cycles , the gas will come on, the igniter will click several times and it will not light. Eventually the attempts to relight stop and the oven falls in temperature. I have replaced the following: DSI Board - replaced 4 times under warranty Ignighter - replaced 3 times under warranty Gas Valve - Replaced once The strange thing, is that if I take out the bottom plate and burner plate so I can watch the burner ignite....it will always re-ignite without issue. I am out of ideas and do not know where to go from here. Could it possibly be the temp sensor? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank You!

Answer

Rick, If the oven is igniting with no issues when the oven bottom is out then this issue sounds likely that it would be some type of air flow issue. Check the oven gasket to make sure that it is not damaged. Check to make sure that there is nothing that could obstruct air movement around the unit.
