Nick for Model Number Majic Chef 8261RW Hi, I have Majic Chef 8261RW glass top gas surface unit. Sometime all four burners would start sparking by themselves without touching the unit. Unplugging the power for some time would stop sparking. Sometime they would start working normally. Right now they are not sparking at all but do light up with match. If it is the spark module, how do I get to it? How do I remove the glass top? Thanks for your help.
Answer Hi Nick. On a unit this old, it's do able, chances are you're going to need some additional burner parts and whichever switches or wires you find damaged/shorted out. Basically, you're going to need to remove the burner knobs, grates and caps. You will then need to remove the three(3) small phillips head screws holding the burner drip pan to the burner base(the screws will probably snap off), you can then lift the glass top off the burner box(you will probably need a putty knife to help unstick the glass). Lift the glass off and you'll have access to all the ignition switches , ignition wiring and spark module 12001596 You may want to order more than 1 (one) switch in case, AP4089539 screws, at least 12 of those and both glass seals 8270P088-60 and 12400021, 12400008 It sounds worse than it is, its actually a pretty simple & easy repair.
