The Pressure Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This switch monitors the water level inside the washer tub and signals the control board to stop filling and start the wash cycle once the desired water level is reached.

Causes of a bad pressure switch can include electrical malfunctions, wear and tear from regular use, or blockages in the pressure hose that connects to the switch.

Symptoms of a bad pressure switch include:

  • The washing machine overfilling or underfilling with water
  • The washer not advancing to the next cycle
  • Error codes related to water level sensing
  • Inconsistent water levels during different cycles

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Answer

Hello Tony, to answer your question the water level sensing is done directly by the main control board. Before you replace any parts, you should run a Recalibration cycle as per the Technical Datasheet that came with your washer, it is located behind the front cabinet panel up near the top. Next ,in checking the Owner's Guide on water levels :Set the Water Level knob to the Auto Sensing setting and the washer will fill to a level that ensures the load engages the agitator. From this point, the electronic control will sense the load and determine if additional water is needed.Set the Water Level knob to the Deep Water Wash setting and the washer will fill to the maximum water level.Deep Water Wash is not available in the Normal cycle mode. Selecting the Normal cycle with the Deep Water Wash setting will result in auto sensing of the water level.
