The Door Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is designed to secure the washer door during operation, ensuring it remains closed and locked. This assembly is crucial for the safe and effective operation of the washing machine, preventing the door from opening mid-cycle, which could result in water leaks and interruptions.

You should replace the door latch assembly if it becomes faulty. Causes of a bad door latch assembly can include regular wear and tear, damage from forceful closing or opening, or electrical issues within the latch mechanism. A malfunctioning door latch can prevent the washer from operating correctly.

Symptoms of a bad door latch assembly include:

  • The washer door not latching or locking properly
  • The washing machine not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to door lock issues
  • Difficulty in opening or closing the door

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Tommy for Model Number wfw8500sr00

Started with the door latch not working. I press the start button and would hear one click noise coming from the CCU then get the F22 code. I replaced the latch, still didn't work. The wires "appeared" fine I replaced the CCU. I press the start button and get three quick beeps, still no latch lock and no F22 error appearing. It just will not start. I use an ohm meter and get no activity on the latch wire that attaches to DLS2 on the CCU. I get something like 15 on DS2. Can't test the DL3 wire. I'm guessing it is a wire issue going to and from the latch and the CCU. Are there separate wires I can purchase to the latch assembly? Am I at the right repair step?

Answer

Tommy, You may have to use a couple of needles, pins or small metal paper clips and your meter the conduct the tests at the CCU. First check and make sure the door is closing and sealing properly and it activates the door switch properly. The DS2 connector at the CCU, must "see" the door switch open and close is accordance with the door position, or the washer control will beep and not program etc. The DL3 connector pin #1 to pin #2 must "see" 120 VAC when the door locks, and 120 VAC across pin#2 and pin#3 when the latch unlocks. When the door is locked, the DLS2 connector should have 120 VAC across pin#1 and pin#2 in order to complete the circuit to the other components of the washer. If the wiring is damaged or at fault, the wiring harness W10184856 will need to be replaced or repaired.
