The Door Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is designed to secure the washer door during operation, ensuring it remains closed and locked. This assembly is crucial for the safe and effective operation of the washing machine, preventing the door from opening mid-cycle, which could result in water leaks and interruptions.

You should replace the door latch assembly if it becomes faulty. Causes of a bad door latch assembly can include regular wear and tear, damage from forceful closing or opening, or electrical issues within the latch mechanism. A malfunctioning door latch can prevent the washer from operating correctly.

Symptoms of a bad door latch assembly include:

  • The washer door not latching or locking properly
  • The washing machine not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to door lock issues
  • Difficulty in opening or closing the door

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Door Latch Assembly (Part Number: OEM18053739)

Angela, You will want to check to make sure that the belt is not broken, make sure that the tub will spin freely by hand. If the tub will not spin freely by hand then this will either be a broken spider on the back of the tub or the bearings have seized up and would need the rear drum if this is the case.

Hello Ronald, since you have replaced the strike and latch and still getting the door latch unlock fault code, start by checking that the strike does line up correctly with the latch opening if not the door hinge may have sagged, next check the door bellows is not bunched causing pressure on the door, lastly, if all seems ok replace the main contorl board WPW10525364.

Hello Jack, first, check that the noise is actually from the motor, remove the drive belt and manually turn the motor shaft and the large tub pully and check for any signs of roughness, its more likely to be a rear tub spin bearing problem than from the motor, also the spin bearing problem will be sensed by the control board and will limit spin speed.

Tikiwil, You will want to test the drain pump to see if there is power getting to it when the unit goes to the drain cycle. If it does not have power then the drain pump would be the most likely cause for this issue.

Gary, Remove the bottom access cover and reach up in the area where the latch is. You will feel a plastic wire coming out of the door lock almost feels like a zip tie. Simply pull the wire and the door will open. Usually, leave the power off for a minute and when you plug the unit back in the control will reset and door unlock. Find the service manual under the top panel and run a service test to recall error codes to start troubleshooting.

Laura for Model Number 110.46462501

My washer works until the final spin cycle; the water drains, but the washer will never enter a high speed spin. I've searched a lot online, and it's suggested a new door latch; is there a way to test the one that's there first to be sure that's the problem? I've seen videos testing with a multi meter on latches with a wax motor, but this particular latch doesn't seem to have this type. Is there a way to test this latch, before I order a replacement? Also not sure how to get the washer to run a diagnostic, as it's an older model Kenmore HE2 front loading, 110.46462501 without a digital display.

Laura, The manufacturer does not list a door lock test for this unit and you would want to check the connection at the door lock and check wiring back to the control board. For this issue the door lock would be the most likely cause for the issue.
