By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18022842
Manufacturer Part Number: WP31001590

This temperature-control thermistor (temperature sensor) feeds accurate temperature data to the control so your appliance can cycle components correctly and, where applicable, manage defrost. Replacing a faulty sensor restores stable operation and consistent performance. What it does:

  • Senses temperature and varies resistance to report conditions to the control
  • Helps the control regulate system cycling for proper operation
  • Supports defrost logic where applicable to prevent coil icing
  • Common failure signs: erratic temperature control, short/long cycling, icing on the evaporator, or unexpected shutoffs
What's included:
  • 1 thermistor
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing
  • Note the original sensor location and wire routing; install the new sensor in the same position
  • Transfer any mounting clip or sleeve from the old sensor if needed
  • Fully seat connectors and route wiring away from sharp, hot, or moving parts

Answer

Ann, the main control W10756689 can be tested for voltage output to the motor by testing the grey wire at relay PS9 for 120VAC when a cycle is started. If there is not 120VAC, the main control has failed. If there is 120VAC, the dryer will need to be unplugged, then the thermal fuse WP40113801 will need to be tested for continuity, and if it doesn't have continuity, would need to be replaced. If there is continuity, the wires will need to be inspected for any breaks or loose wires, and if there are none, then the motor WP2200376 would be the issue.
