The Dryer Timer is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dryers. It electronically controls the different stages of the drying cycle, from initial heat up to final cool down. The timer allows for programmed cycles and ensures clothes are dried thoroughly and efficiently.

Causes of a bad dryer timer include water intrusion leading to corrosion, physical abuse from impact or overloading, or standard wear and tear on integrated circuits over many cycles.

Symptoms of a bad dryer timer include:

  • Inability to start or continue drying programs
  • Premature ending of cycles
  • Erratic stopping and starting of drum rotation
  • No heat function during drying
  • Fault codes and shutdowns

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore dryers.

Hello Cameron, Since there is no difference in the operation of the unit from timed dry to the automatic cycle, the issue has to be related to airflow. I would open the unit and make sure there is not an item like a dryer softener sheet in the blower wheel. While in there check for any possible loose or missing seals/gaskets. If nothing is found you may need to recheck the ducting for a full 4-inch diameter opening inside the duct from the back of the unit to outside atmosphere. I have found water standing inside the duct that restricts airflow. I have also found excessive amounts of flex duct behind dryers that cause issues since the ducting needs to be short and straight as possible.
