Jeff W for Model Number RB19KN-4A I just got a replacement timer 4391974 for my Magic Chef (original TMDG823VB9) and just plugged it in. I saw the black lead on it but didn't do anything but left it there. I'm assumed the new timer is digital and it will do its defrosting automatically (i.e. if it realizes the fridge took a bit longer to run to cool than normal, it will go into defrost mode). Should I connect that wire to 1 (which I believe is a return/neutral) or 2 (which I believe is power in for defrosting), or just leave it as is and assume it will work fine.
Answer Jeff, The black lead on the timer will go to either terminal 1 or 2 on the new timer. If you fail to put this lead on the correct terminal per the instructions then the unit will never go into the defrost. The timer is mechanical and the black lead is the other side of the timer motor which will not turn if the wire is not connected. Read More...
