Dan for Model Number whirlpool er6ahkxpq00 Freezer works fine. Ice builds up on back and into the air chute and duct tower then refrigerator stops cooling. Seems that ice blocks the air flow to the refrigerator. Turn unit off and allow ice to melt and plug back in and every thing freezes and cools until the cycle repeats. Can you tell me what needs to be replaced?
Answer Dan, If the coils in the freezer are being impacted with ice then the issue would be a defrost failure. For this issue you will want to do a continuity test on the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. If they both show continuity then you will need to replace the defrost timer 4388931.
