Martin, You will want to remove all the product out of the freezer and remove the rear wall of the unit and test the defrost heater. The resistance of the heater would be around 11 to 15 ohms. If this checks ok then make sure that it is not the GFCI that is getting weak. If the GFCI is ok then the defrost control board would be the issue.
