Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Refrigerator Adaptive Defrost Control Board (Part Number: OEM9328191)

1 Answer

Pat, unfortunately, the defrost control 4388932 does not have a manual turn button to enter into a forced defrost mode. However, the thermostat can be turned off for 15 seconds, turned back on for 5 seconds, and this would be repeated two more times. This should force a defrost cycle for 21 minutes or until the defrost bi-metal opens up.

Jj for Model Number Amana asd2522wrb06

I have this Amana for 11 years. It first acting up with a click sound. click sound would click once and 5 to 10 second it click again then another 5 or 10 minutes it will click all over again. I check the clicking sound came from the start relay. So I went and change a new start relay and capacitor for the compressor. With that newly installed I start up the Amana, everything seen to start like normal hummed along both fan inside and outside blowing strong. In about 5 to 10 minutes the both fan shutoff by itself only the lights on both side is working. Please help.

JJ, This issue would most likely be with the defrost control board. It would be recommended to try to unplug the unit for about 5 minutes then plug it back in. If the unit starts up then the unit was stuck in defrost and the board will need to be replaced.

Todd, This does sound like it would be a sealed system issue and possibly a bad compressor.

Darryl for Model Number ED5JHEXTB00

My fridge has been acting strange since it was repaired after an electrical surge. I had to replace my wiring harness, compressor, control board, condenser fan and my defrost thermostat. The proper amount of refrigerant was put in and made sure there were no leaks, pressure is running though the system and there is no over heating. The fan runs in the freezer and there is no frost build up of any kind. It first started to cool properly after being plugged back in but soon it started to return to room temperature. The compressor turns on and off every few hours after running. I don't see any pressure drop in the coolant after 36 hours. Is it the control board with a faulty auto defrost timer or another issue?

1 Answer

Darryl, Thanks for the question!!! If the compressor is running and no frost is forming on the evaporator that would mean you have a sealed system issue. You would need to contact an EPA-certified technician for repair.

Sam, You will want to check the defrost heater to make sure that it is not shorted out. If this checks ok then the compressor will need to be checked and check for wiring that is possibly damaged.

Jenny for Model Number Whirlpool WRS325FDAM02

5 years old Whirlpool side by side fridge. model WRS325FDAM02. Freezer not freeze. The temperature is ~44F. The evaporator coils have thin frost on the bottom 2-3 raw. I have tested: compressor: ohm reading 8.1/5.5/13.3 evaporator fan: working. ohm 87.4 overload start relay with capacitor: rattle slightly defrost heater: ohm 23.7 defrost thermostat: ohm OL at room temp, 0 after 30min in freezer temperature control thermostat: OL when off, 0,1 when on, OL after 30 min in freezer What's going on???!!! Thank you very much!

1 Answer

Jenny, Based on the information provided it sounds like a sealed system issue with frost only on 2 to 3 rows of the evaporator. For a sealed system issue you would need an EPA certified technician to do the repairs. (Sealed system = compressor, evaporator, condenser or drier...etc)

Martin, You will want to remove all the product out of the freezer and remove the rear wall of the unit and test the defrost heater. The resistance of the heater would be around 11 to 15 ohms. If this checks ok then make sure that it is not the GFCI that is getting weak. If the GFCI is ok then the defrost control board would be the issue.
