Stewart for Model Number msd2454grw My freezer is not defrosting. I measured the heater element (24ohms)not shorted, thermostat room temp(236 ohms), thermostat in a cup of Ice with water(234 ohms). To do this, I placed a straight pin through the wire sleeve between the element and the thermostat. Is this the proper test procedure for this assembly, if so is it good? How can I test the defrost timer? there are 4 pins. What readings should I be getting, and across which pins. Also is there anything else that could be causing this problem?
Answer Hello Stewart. If both the heater and thermostat read closed when cold, then they are good and the timer is bad. It is best to test for continuity and not ohms. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
