This mechanical timer is the cycle controller for your washer. It advances the machine through fill, wash, rinse, and spin at the proper intervals to restore consistent, reliable operation when the original timer fails. What it does

  • Sequences the washer through fill, agitate, drain, rinse, and spin steps
  • Sends power to the motor, pump, and water valves at the correct times
  • Advances automatically based on the selected cycle and knob position
  • Common symptoms of a failing timer: won't start, won't advance or stops mid-cycle, runs continuously, or no agitation/spin

Install notes
  • Disconnect power before servicing
  • Lift or remove the control panel; remove the timer knob/dial if required and the timer mounting screws
  • Transfer the wire harness to the new timer one connector at a time to maintain orientation; secure the timer
  • Reinstall dial/knob, reassemble the console, and test a full cycle

Answer

Eric, You have the correct timer installed in the washer. Recheck and make sure you didn't install the timer upside down. Then remove the timer knob and dial, slowly and carefully turn the timer shaft, until you hear a louder than usual "click"(this should be one of the "off" detents in the timer) install the timer dial so the pointer aligns to the off position on the panel and install and lock the timer knob in position.
