Hello Todd, You will need to open the unit to determine the component that has caused the burning odor. You will need to also check the motor and the motor capacitor since these can be one of the causes or, if there is something binding the motor such as an item in the pump or an item between the tubs, the motor may have overheated which would shut the unit down by tripping the motors' overload.
