Jz78817 for Model Number KAWS750GQ1

Hi, I'm dealing with a KitchenAid KAWS750GQ1 (Whirlpool direct-drive) washer which has been causing a ton of problems lately. A little over a week ago, it decided not to agitate. The washer would fill to the correct level, water flow would stop, and then nothing else would happen. turning the timer knob around to the final "spin" region at least got it to drain and start spinning. We replaced the timer and for about 4 loads of laundry it worked normally. This morning, it stopped working again with the same symptoms. After filling with water to the correct level, the water flow shuts off but nothing else happens. The timer can be heard advancing (though it seems like it's advancing a lot faster than it should be.) The lid switch is currently bypassed with a jumper wire. When it should be agitating, I measure no voltage on any of the wires at the motor start switch, or the motor start capacitor. when we could get it to spin/drain, I measured expected AC voltage at the motor wires. So as far as it is now, I think: 1) it's not the lid switch because a) I've bypassed it and b) this model will agitate with the lid open anyway 2) it's not the water level switch because the water flow stops at the correct level and the timer starts advancing 3) it's not the drive motor, motor starting cap, or switch because there's no AC voltage on any of the pins when it's supposed to be agitating, nor is the motor humming or getting warm. Part of me thinks it's a bum timer but I don't want to just replace it if something else in the washer might be over-stressing it. Thank you

Answer

Hello jz78817. Based on all the information you provided, everything is pointing to a bad timer on the unit.
