Betsy B for Model Number Maytag model # MDE6400AYW serial # 12512074CA My dryer has BOTH problems that I have just read seem to be problems for other people too. I have to play with the start knob to get it to come on. Sometimes it seems to help if I open and close the door first and then pull the knob again but it is hit and miss. But now the dryer will not turn off unless I physically open the door. It will run all day if I'm not paying attention. What parts do I need to fix it and can I do this myself?
Answer Hi Betsy. Yes you can simply remove all power and replace these parts yourself. The timer is part # WP33002803. The door switch is part # W10169313. The timer knob needs to be removed first by getting to the back of the timer and pulling the center hidden shaft extension that holds the knob in place. Then there will be a finger clip on the back connected to the timer that locks it in the back of the panel. Twist slightly and the timer will rotate and remove. The door switch can be removed with a small plastic putty knife from the sides and removing out from the front panel. Follow the instructions closely. Thank you. Read More...
