This genuine OEM part is a pivot bar assembly for riding lawnmowers. The pivot bar assembly is a rectangular metal piece that assists with the mowers steering functions. If the mower steering is no longer aligned properly and is not driving straight, the pivot bar assembly will need to be replaced. Luckily, this repair is a relatively easy job. To begin, start by making sure the ignition is in the off position and the engine has cooled. After that, lower the mower deck to its lowest position. Remove the retaining pin supporting the support arms and detach the arms to release the mower deck from the frame. Once released, remove the deck belt from the engine pulley and the belt guides. Detach the clutch cable from the retainer. Slide the deck out from under the frame and pull off the steering will cover by unthreading the mounting nuts that secure the wheel. After removing the nuts, pull off the steering wheel. Unthread the fuel tank mounting bolts and set the tank aside. Using a floor jack, lift up the front end of the mower and use pliers to remove the spring clip securing the steering shaft, and use a socket wrench to unthread the steering support mounting bolts. Once removed, push the steering shaft down, and slide the washers that hold the pivot bar assembly. Install the new pivot bar assembly in its correct position by aligning it to the support. Secure the mounting bolts. This replacement part is sold individually and is compatible with MTD brand lawnmowers.
