Over time, the pulley can become worn and will eventually need to be replaced. If there is a squealing sound whenever the moving parts of a lawn tool are engaged, it is probably a sign that the idler pulley is about to fail. The pulley itself is attached to the engine housing with 9/16 hex bolts and requires an adjustable wrench and 9/16 ratchet to remove and replace.
