How to Troubleshoot & Replace Bosch AP3996662 / 00642239 Drain Pump

Replaced drain pump. 

Isolated the problem by removing the bottom panel and running a rinse and hold cycle. By holding the drain pump housing during the drain cycle I could feel it running and also hear the grinding noise. I then ordered a new pump, which was on my door step within 48 hours. Replacement was easy with the help of a YouTube video I found. I ran a test with the rinse and hold cycle no more grinding noise. I've run the dishwasher six times since and problem is gone. 

Realized on the weekend that the dishwasher didn’t’t drain after the wash cycle. Kitchen had a plastic smell on Sunday. After looking at the schematic figured it had to do with the drain pump unit. Went online with the make and model number and ordered the part Sunday night and it came in on Wednesday. Had the day off on Thursday and it literally took me less than an hour from gettin the tool bag out to cleaning up the towels protesting the floor. The online videos are a must to show you the process. I reviewed one a second time when I had a bit of trouble popping the front panel off and it took care of the issue. This is the second time I’ve done an appliance project with Appliance Parts Pro’s help and they’ve delivered the parts that work and provided the online help when needed. It was greatly appreciated, 5 stars! Ps. A chip from a dish had jammed inside the impeller and fried the original unit. 

Replace pump. Had to reset control panel after repairs. 

Removed the drain pump and bench tested it and it checked fine. Reinstalled pump and it worked fine for two washes and failed again. Removed it again and this time failed bench test. Called to verify part number and then ordered a pump. It was delivered in 3 days. Easy replacement, worked fine ever since. I really appreciate the 24/7 phone line, I spent a total of $96 instead of a whole new dishwasher.

Replaced drain pump and check valve 

Replaced the water pump. Watched a video from AppliancePartsPros.com online, and had confidence we could do the work ourselves. Ordered the part online at AppliancePartsPros, and it arrived in 3 days (thanks!). Replacement went quickly and easily. Getting the door back on took a bit of finagling, but I would attribute that as much to our inexperience with dishwasher repair as anything. The dishwasher is back running normally, we saved a bunch of money and learned a few things along the way. Over - very happy with APP! 

I watched a video on YouTube made by AppliancePartsPros.com on how to access the pumps and replace those parts on my specific Bosch 15-year-old dishwasher. Given its age, I was willing to just replace the whole dishwasher, but with supply chain issues right now, it was impossible to buy a replacement of a similar model any time soon. So I took the risk of repairing it myself, with zero experience. I ordered a replacement drain pump from AppliancePartsPros.com and followed their videos to make the repair. It was a complete success, the new drain pump works great and completely solved my problem. Who knows I could get another 15 years out of this thing now!
